Xavier Serra gives a lecdem at the Music Academy Madras

Xavier Serra gives a Lecture-Demonstration on CompMusic at the 87th Annual Conference of the Music Academy Madras on December 17th 2013. The lecture will be on "Computational description of Carnatic and Hindustani music".

Abstract: CompMusic is a research project funded by the European Research Council whose main goal is to advance in the automatic description of music through the development of information modelling techniques applicable to five music traditions, including Hindustani and Carnatic. In this talk I will describe the overall aims of the project and present the particular work done for the Hindustani and Carnatic music traditions. Current efforts are centred in the analysis and description of the melodic and rhythmic characteristics of these musics and on the development of a web-based software application that lets users interact with audio music collections through the use of musical concepts that are derived from each musical culture.
